Summary
Catherine Devaney has a wide ranging, predominantly civil, practice. She has experience appearing in the Court of Session, the Sheriff Courts, the High Court of Justiciary and the Employment Tribunal.
Experience
Catherine Devaney acts on behalf of defenders, health boards, local authorities, insurers and individual pursuers. Her practice includes many aspects of medical negligence (including cerebral palsy), brain injury claims, employers’ liability claims, stress at work and harassment. She is instructed as junior counsel for Tayside Health Board in the forthcoming Vale of Leven Inquiry. In criminal matters she has acted as defence counsel in cases involving complex financial fraud and mortgage fraud and as junior for the Crown in high profile cases, including a recent landmark conviction of a paedophila ring on a charge of conspiracy. In the employment field she has experience acting for both claimants and respondents and has experience of sex discrimination, discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation, unfair dismissal, redundancy and equal pay.
